BiographyI was born in Quonset Point, Rhode Island, a former Navy base on the Atlantic coast. Being a part of a military family, we moved frequently during my early years, finally settling in the Pacific Northwest by the time I was five. I am currently a resident of beautiful Camano Island, Washington. My love of art and painting began at an early age, and although I didn't pursue art seriously until retirement in 2001, I feel somehow compelled to make up for lost time! I have studied and worked in both watercolor and oil mediums but, have been primarily painting in watercolor. I began first with classical drawing and oil painting classes with the late Patricia Raab of Anacortes, Washington. Raab, who studied with Ron Lucas, followed the Russian Impressionist tradition in oil painting. This impressionistic legacy was passed down from Ilya Repin (1844-1930) to Nicolai Fechin (1881-1955). Raab emphasized color relationship theory and application. I then later studied with Irina Kirienko Milton of Mukilteo, Washington. Milton stressed composition, light and color. I worked primarily in Still Life, Landscape and Portraits. Wanting to work in both Oil and Watercolor, I began watercolor painting instruction with Michele Cooper and Helen Lueken. Cooper and Lueken both taught a broad array of techniques in the application of the watercolor medium. My experiences included Still Life and Landscapes. Currently, I take workshops to broaden my painting skills. I work in a representational style, and strive to produce paintings that are alive, yet delicately detailed.
